For fjords and walking routes, the warmer half of the year is a useful starting point for Bergen and Flåm. An aurora trip needs a different base: choose northern Norway, such as the Tromsø area, and allow several dark evenings from autumn into early spring. Bergen is not a reliable aurora base. Snow and ski trails near Bergen depend on the weather; mountain conditions can differ from those at the harbour.
