FIND YOUR BASE

Where should you stay?

A base near the harbour makes it easier to combine Bryggen, walking tours and fjord trips. For a budget-conscious visit, prioritise a simple room and a good location. For more comfort, look for a hotel with a view, but still check the distance to your boat's departure point.

A practical two-day plan for Bergen

Choose Bergen if you want a town base with history, caf茅s and an optional fjord outing. A city stay and a longer journey through the fjord region are different trips; avoid spending a short break changing hotels every day.

Day one: Bryggen and time in town

Start around Bryggen and the harbour. Choose one walking tour for historical context; the two walks below are alternatives, not activities you need to book together. Leave space for your own stops and changing weather.

Day two: a fjord trip or more city life

Choose at most one longer outing. Check the departure point, total duration and return journey to your hotel. Keep a city day as an alternative if weather or sailing conditions change. Allow separate travel time if you are continuing to Fl氓m.

Getting from the airport to the centre

Light Rail line 1 links Bergen Airport with the city centre in around 45 minutes. The airport bus is another option, particularly when a stop suits your hotel better. Compare the complete door-to-door journey and current departures.

Is this a northern lights trip?

This guide focuses on Bergen and the fjords. If auroras are your main reason for travelling, compare it with Finnish Lapland, where dark evenings and base selection shape the trip.
