Colourful houses, beach and blue sea in Positano on the Amalfi Coast

AREA GUIDE 路 Italy

Amalfi Coast

Coastal towns, sea views and time for long lunches. Choose a few stops rather than driving the entire coast in one day.

FIND YOUR BASE

Where should you stay?

A small property in one of the coastal towns offers a chance to enjoy local life and evening strolls. A hotel with sea views suits a more exclusive stay. Compare steps, access to the harbour and distances to the places you want to visit.

Plan your stayCoastal towns and long lunchesBefore bookingChoose a few stops and one base

Positano or Amalfi: start with your base

Choose Positano for its hillside houses and a stay where the town itself is part of the experience. Check access to your hotel and the stairs between your room, the beach and transport. A short distance on a map does not tell the whole story.

Consider Amalfi if you want a town base and outings from there. Staying outside the best-known towns may be appealing, but include additional transport and the return journey after dinner.

Avoid a holiday spent changing locations

Give your own town a full day and choose at most one other town for an outing. Compare boats, buses and transfers using specific departures, luggage needs and hotel location. Sailing routes depend on season and conditions; keep an alternative if services change.

A simple three-night outline

Arrival and an easy evening. A day in your base with time by the coast. An outing to one other town or a guided experience. Keep departure day for transport rather than squeezing in another stop. Check meeting points, included stops and duration before booking a boat trip.

Compare the complete price

Look at the room, breakfast, transfers, beach access and parking separately. A lower hotel rate may mean more expensive transport. Budget for the complete trip rather than allowing one photograph or room price to decide.

Three ideas for your days

01

Amalfi and Atrani on foot

Explore Amalfi and nearby villages on a private guided hike with coastal views. The route connects historic settlements, steps and paths around Atrani and Ravello. This is an active outing with changes in elevation, rather than a short stroll around the square.

02

The Amalfi Coast and Furore from the water

Take a boat trip from Amalfi along the coast to the Furore fjord. See cliffs and coastal towns from a different perspective, with a swimming stop when conditions allow.

03

Hike the Path of the Gods

Follow the high coastal paths with a private guide, taking in views of the sea, terraces and villages. The walk starts in Agerola and heads towards Positano. Plan transport to the starting point and consider your experience with uneven terrain and changes in elevation before booking.
