FIND YOUR BASE
Where should you stay?
A small property or lodge around Monteverde can provide a base for nature tours. Choose according to the distance from the forest experience you actually want to visit. Added comfort and views can form part of your stay, but research transport separately rather than assuming everything is within walking distance.

Three ideas for your days
01
Cloud forest with a naturalist guide
Explore Monteverde's cloud forest in a small group. Your guide uses a spotting scope and local knowledge to find and explain birds, plants and small creatures. Admission to the reserve is purchased separately.
Follow a guide through Selvatura's forest and across its hanging bridges, experiencing both the forest floor and the green canopy. The tour includes transport from hotels in the Monteverde area.
Join a guide on an evening walk as the forest's nocturnal animals begin to stir. The focus is on listening and looking for small creatures and other signs of life; sightings vary from evening to evening.
Mid-December to April is typically the dry season, particularly on the Pacific coast. The Caribbean coast and mountain regions follow different weather patterns.
