Where should you stay?

A smaller property around Ubud suits cultural visits and nearby outings. A lodge or hotel with more facilities can leave room for quieter days. Lempuyang is in eastern Bali; treat it as a separate excursion and check transport rather than considering it a quick stop in Ubud.

Three days in Ubud, with room to slow down

We suggest three nights if you want both an outing and time without a schedule. This is an editorial planning suggestion, rather than a minimum stay.

First day: explore your base

Keep arrival day for your immediate surroundings and a relaxed dinner. Campuhan is a possible walk described by Indonesia's official tourism organisation. Choose a time that suits the heat, weather and your pace.

Second day: rice terraces and culture

Choose one combined outing from the experiences below, or agree a shorter route with a driver. Request a specific stop list and admission details to avoid overlapping tours. A retail or coffee-tasting stop is not interchangeable with a cultural or nature visit.

Third day: a workshop or a free day

A jewellery workshop offers an alternative to another day in a car. Check included materials, extra charges and pickup. If continuing to Uluwatu's coast, allow separate time for the transfer.

Choose access as well as a view

A stay outside the centre can suit slower days, but ask about the access road, steps and evening transport. Check whether restaurants are walkable and what transfers cost. Compare the same number of nights, breakfast and cancellation conditions. Keep meals, transport, admission and private tours as separate items in your trip plan.

Three ideas for your days

01

Ubud's nature and culture

Combine Monkey Forest with temples, waterfalls and rice terraces on a private tour around Ubud. The trip brings several of the area's experiences together, offering an insight into both the landscape and local culture.

02

Make your own silver jewellery

Try silversmithing at a jewellery workshop in the Ubud area. Work on your own design with guidance along the way, creating a handmade souvenir to take home from Bali.

03

A trip to Lempuyang Temple

Visit Lempuyang Temple, known for its “Gate of Heaven”. The temple is in eastern Bali, so this is an excursion beyond Ubud and requires time for transport in your day's plans.
