When is the best time to visit Egypt?

For a trip combining Cairo and the Red Sea, March–April and October–November are our first suggestions. Daytime heat is more manageable than in midsummer, leaving room for sightseeing and beach time. Do not choose a month from a sunny photograph alone: wind, shade and access to the water also shape a beach holiday.

December–February suits sightseeing in Cairo, with another layer for evenings. On the coast, a heated pool may be worth prioritising. June–August calls for early outings, air-conditioned breaks and fewer midday plans. The historical air temperatures below are neither a forecast nor sea temperatures.

Average daily minimum and maximum air temperatures, °C. Climate period 1981–2010, published by WMO using Egyptian Meteorological Authority data. These are historical normals, not a 2026 forecast or figures for Sharm or the whole country.

In November the table shows average daily highs of roughly 25°C in Cairo and 27°C in Hurghada. Water, wind and evening temperatures are separate considerations for a beach holiday.

Where should you stay in Egypt?

Choose Hurghada for a beach base with boat trips towards the Giftun islands. Choose Sharm el-Sheikh when a hotel reef and Ras Mohammed outings matter most. Choose Cairo and Giza for pyramids, museums and city life. These are distinct bases, not effortless stops on a single day trip.

For a week, we would prioritise one coastal base or a focused Cairo stay. With ten to twelve days, three or four nights in Cairo followed by the coast can make more sense. Allow a separate travel day and compare domestic flights with a prearranged transfer before committing. Asili Journeys does not sell package holidays; you book each element with its provider.

How much does an Egypt holiday cost?

Start with flights and accommodation for exactly the same dates. Then compare meals, baggage, airport transfers, visas, insurance and activities. An inexpensive room without beach access is a different product from a resort including meals, a pool and a private beach.

For two adults sharing a double room, an editorial planning example is DKK 250 per person per night for accommodation, DKK 150 per day for food and DKK 100 for local transport and incidentals. Seven nights and seven daily allowances total DKK 3,500 per person, or DKK 7,000 for two, before flights, visas, insurance and major tours. These are our assumptions, not live offers or verified market averages. Add any extra arrival and departure day costs.

A comfort-focused example uses DKK 450 + 200 + 150, totalling DKK 800 per person per day, or DKK 5,600 for seven nights and seven daily allowances. Obtain actual quotes before committing. For all-inclusive stays, replace the accommodation and meal lines with the package accommodation price to avoid counting food twice.

Currency, visas, transport and safety

The currency is the Egyptian pound, EGP. Check the current exchange rate and card fees, and carry small denominations for smaller purchases. Agree prices before a service begins. Denmark’s travel advice recommends prearranged taxis in good condition or well-known ride services.

Danish tourists generally need a visa. The official e-visa portal requires a passport valid for at least six months from arrival. Apply in good time and check rules for your passport and entire itinerary on Egypt’s official visa portal. Do not assume a special Sinai arrangement also covers Cairo. Check fees and conditions with the authorities; travellers of other nationalities must check their own requirements.

Safety checked 21 October 2026: Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises extra caution in the usual tourist areas and advises against travel to certain other regions. Read the full current advice and regional boundaries before choosing a route, together with your own government’s guidance. Use reputable boat and diving operators and insurance covering your activities. Danish public health cards and the EHIC do not cover Egypt. These notes do not replace official updates.

Questions about Egypt

How warm is Egypt in November?

WMO climate averages for 1981–2010 show average daily highs of 27.0°C in Hurghada and 24.7°C in Cairo. These describe two locations, not the whole country. Evenings are cooler.

Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh?

Choose by the actual beach, hotel water access and intended trips. Hurghada is a base for the Giftun area; Sharm for Ras Mohammed. Compare the guides before selecting a hotel.

Can you combine Cairo and the beach?

Yes, but allow both a transport budget and a travel day. Fewer stops can give you more time for what matters on a short holiday.
